CLC Editors says:
Negative information can remain on your credit report for up to 7 years. In the case of bankruptcy, up to 10 years. However, if you file a credit dispute to the credit bureaus, contesting a negative item, the credit bureaus legally has the responsibility of verifying the debt. They have 30 days to investigate your dispute and validate the debt with the creditor or it must be removed from your files.
