Shocking Facts About Identity Theft
Posted by

Every day at Credit Learning Center, we come across more and more folks who have been hit by identity theft. Here's a shocking number. That's sounds awfully high to us, but if you take the broadest definition of identity theft, it makes a lot more sense. How about a stolen wallet, or your credit card info was used by someone else, or any of a number of other ways you could become a victim of identity theft.

The fact is, if you have been hit by identity theft in the past year or so, odds are you probably would not even know it. In many cases, victims of idenity theft are surprised to learn that the identity thief was actually a former friend or roommate, or a co-worker.

Unless you were monitoring your credit reports, you probably would not know that someone else opened up a credit card account in your name, and changed your address so the card arrived safely in their mailbox instead of yours!

Too bad they didn't pay their bills on time. Too bad they also messed up your credit.
